3G Network Shutdown – Ensure Your Flow Meter Compliance in New Zealand

WaterForce partners with WaterCheck and other industry-leading telemetry providers to help customers meet flow meter compliance requirements across New Zealand.

Flow meter telemetry systems record the volume of water pumped through your meter. The data is captured by an on-site electronic logger, sent securely to cloud servers, and forwarded to your regional council to ensure water meter data compliance.

Many flowmeter loggers installed several years ago operate on 3G networks. With New Zealand telcos beginning the 3G network shutdown from January 2025,it is essential to upgrade these loggers to 4G telemetry to continue recording accurate data.

If your flowmeter telemetry has been installed for some time and you haven’t been contacted about an upgrade, please reach out to WaterForce. We can check whether your logger is 4G-compatible and advise on the necessary upgrade.

The 3G shutdown will occur at different times in different regions. Waiting until the network is switched off could interrupt data collection. Since council regulations require flow meter data to be recorded every 15 minutes, 365 days a year, any interruption may result in a non-compliance notice.

WaterForce can help with flow meter telemetry compliance for the following councils:

  • Environment Canterbury (ECAN)
  • Otago Regional Council
  • Environment Southland
  • Marlborough District Council
  • Tasman District Council (TDC)
  • Greater Wellington Regional Council
  • Horizons / Manawatū-Whanganui
  • Environment Waikato
  • Bay of Plenty Regional Council
  • Northland Regional Council
  • Auckland Council
  • Taranaki Regional Council

Don’t wait until the 3G shutdown interrupts your flow meter telemetry. Contact WaterForce today to ensure your flow meter compliance remains uninterrupted.
