If you are supplying water to people outside your home, you are likely a drinking water supplier and must comply with the updated regulations.
If you're a water supplier the first step is to register as a Drinking Water Supplier with the new regulator Taumata Arowai. This is required by 15 November 2025 and then compliance must be achieved by November 2028.
This process is something we can help you navigate.
The Water Services Act 2021 passed into law on 15 November 2021 and the new regulator Taumata Arowai was set up.
Under this Act water suppliers have a duty of care to provide safe drinking water to their consumers. All water suppliers, regardless of their size, need to meet the NZ Drinking Water Standards and take all practicable steps to comply with aesthetic values.
Small water suppliers also need to either adopt an acceptable solution or comply with the quality assurance rules by implementing a water safety plan.
WaterForce can provide assistance and advice on how best to navigate this registration and compliance.
