North Otago’s early pioneers saw great potential in the land around them and helped shape New Zealand’s farming industry into the global force it is today.
Totara Estate, just south of Oamaru, is where the first shipment of frozen mutton was prepared and exported in 1882 – forming the beginnings of our multi-billion dollar frozen meat industry.
The historic farm still exists today and is surrounded by hundreds of other dairy, sheep and beef farms that occupy mountainous high country in the west through to rolling farmland and flat coastal plains in the east.
Market gardeners and the odd winery also make use of this productive land while a string of tight-knit communities have sprung up across the region including Timaru, Fairlie, Tekapo, Twizel, Omarama, Duntroon, Oamaru, Moeraki and Palmerston.
Our main WaterForce branch is situated in the historic town of Oamaru but we also draw on the expertise of our Timaru-based staff to service customers throughout South Canterbury and North Otago, and as far south as Dunedin.
Together our two branches can help you design and install both large and small-scale irrigation schemes on your land or lifestyle block. We also operate a trade store and service outlet in Omarama.
We specialise in helping agriculture clients; providing stockwater services; installing dairy effluent pumping, reticulation and irrigation for industry; installing flow meters and telemetry; as well as landscape and sports turf irrigation and filtration.
Our key products include Valley Pivots & Linears, Ocmis hard hose irrigators, WaterForce folding booms, K-Line irrigation, Krohne flow meters, WaterCheck compliance telemetry, SCADAfarm control and monitoring solutions, plus leading pump technology.
In the event of a break down, our WaterForce staff will respond within 24 hours. Where possible, we’ll replace or repair parts on the spot. Or if necessary, we’ll fit a temporary solution and bring items back to our workshop for more major repairs.
You can also book our experienced staff to service your pivots and pumps to keep everything running and ensure water stays on when you need it most.
Oamaru is also home to one of WaterForce’s largest nationwide trade stores. We stock everything you might need for your farm or lifestyle property including pipes, fittings, repair gibaults and parts for irrigation, stockwater or pumping systems. Residential homeowners are also well catered for, with plenty of advice and equipment for maintaining a lush, green garden and lawn.
WaterForce is proud to have strong local connections and is pleased to support the annual golf tournament at Tokarahi Golf Club, help the Oamaru Volunteer Fire Brigade, and sponsor both the A&P Grounds and Oamaru Hockey Turf Club.
