A pivot irrigator is made from spans consisting of steel water pipes held up by a steel supporting structure. Each span is mounted on a drive tower and base beam incorporating an electric gear motor driving a set of gearboxes and tractor wheels. Pivots move around a centre point, operate in either direction and can complete either a part-circle or full-circle operation.
A linear irrigator consists of the same spans and drive tower mechanism as a pivot. The machines differ as both ends of the linear move when walking, allowing the machine to move in a linear motion and irrigate rectangle land areas.
